The Best Choice of Toothpaste for Sensitive Gums and Teeth
Apart from genetics and its influence to the quality of our teeth, there are two most important factors, which will result in sensitive teeth and gums. These are poor and inadequate oral hygiene from the early age and misguided, heavy teeth brushing. Heavy brushing does not mean cleaner teeth, only damaged enamel and more sensitive gums, which will result in plaque and tartar over the years.
Even with the most proper of care, teeth can be sensitive to the point of misery. The mildest food and drink may cause pain and soreness.
This phenomenon, known as dentin hypersensitivity, is actually temporary soreness and pain, especially if hot and cold food or drinks are consumed.

The solution is the dentist and the sensitivity is treatable. After the careful examination of the entire mouth cavity, the dentist will prescribe pain relievers and toothpaste, which is soothing to the exposed teeth roots. It will be usually potassium nitrate based toothpaste, which helps reducing the extra sensitivity to the teeth. Such toothpastes serve as direct desensitizers to the exposed nerves.
Apart from the toothpaste based on potassium nitrate, fluoride rich mouth-water will also help in reducing the sensitivity of our teeth, that is the exposed teeth roots.
The issue here is that the prescribed potassium rich toothpaste and fluoride rich mouthwash must be used for at least a few weeks period, after which the discomfort usually goes away.

One of the basic problems this occurrence is repetitive is the habit of heavy brushing. The usage of potassium nitrate toothpaste will build a protective cover over our exposed teeth roots, but since we are used to brush heavily, it is just a matter of days before this tiny protective cover is brushed away – not by toothpaste but our harsh movements.
There is a variety of electric toothbrushes with alerts if brushing becomes too harsh, with even incorporated timers and pressure sensors, which will release a sound if we apply too much stress onto a tooth. Along with such intentional electric toothbrushes, there are soothing toothpastes to go with it. If we use proper electric toothbrush with too aggressive toothpaste or vice versa, there will be no positive result. If we continue to press and stress our teeth, we should not bother our dentist or ourselves since we are not ready to change our habits.
Some food provokes sensitive teeth and gums more than other (such as citrus, soda juices, tea, coffee, ice cream) thus we should avoid it in order to let the sensitivity toothbrush and toothpaste work properly.
